A quick update: Ambiance and Radiance Colors theme pack, which provides Ambiance and Radiance available in 8 different colors, is now available in a PPA for Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot and 12.04 Precise Pangolin users.
Using the PPA instead of manually installing the themes, you can stay up to date with newer versions without having to manually check for new updates. Add the PPA and install Ambiance and Radiance Colors GTK2/3 themes using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ambiance-colors radiance-colorsOnce installed, use GNOME Tweak Tool or Ubuntu Tweak 0.6 to switch to any of the newly installed themes.
To install Ambiance and Radiance Colors for XFCE/LXDE, instead of the last command above, use:
Ambiance & Radiance Colors is a theme pack that provides Ambiance and Radiance available in 8 different colors: red, orange (different from Ubuntu orange), yellow , green , blue , purple , graphite (grey) and pink.
The pack comes with GTK2/3 as well as Xfwm4 and Openbox themes and should work on Ubuntu 11.10 or newer (as well as other Linux distributions such as Fedora 15, etc.) while the XFCE themes should work on Ubuntu 10.10+.
Here are a few more screenshots:
When using Ambiance (the default Ubuntu theme), Nautilus 3 has dark breadcrumbs / toolbar (and menu if you disable appmenu), white background and a gray-ish sidebar, which doesn't look too good if you ask me.
In case you're not using Ambiance, here's a screenshot:
Not exactly pretty, isn't it?
So WarriorIng64 has modified Ambiance to use a dark sidebar for Nautilus 3 and in my opinion, it looks a lot better:
Ambiance Blue is a pack that includes GTK2, GTK3, GNOME Shell and Avant Window Navigator themes, especially designed for those who like the Ambiance theme style but don't like the orange or simply want to try a fresh style while keeping the overall Ambiance look.
Since the pack comes with both GTK2 and GTK3 themes, you can use Ambiance Blue in both GNOME 2 (Ubuntu 11.04 or older) as well as GNOME 3 (Ubuntu 11.10) - or other Linux distributions, but for the GTK3 theme you'll need to install Unico GTK3 engine.
Here's Ambiance Blue GTK2 theme in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal:
And Ambiance Blue GTK2 + GTK3 + GNOME Shell theme running in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot:
Ambiance, the default Ubuntu theme, will get a dark toolbar very soon. The news comes from Andrea Cimitan who has posted a screenshot on Google+:
If you want to use Ambiance with a dark toolbar already, you can use Ambiance Evolution, an unofficial version that already has a dark toolbar - see THIS page for more info.
In other Oneiric news, Compiz was updated today and the modal dialogs finally look like they are supposed to for Unity 3D:
Previously, the modal dialogs had a regular window titlebar in Unity 3D.
