Beatbox, the default music player in the upcoming elementary "Luna" release, has reached version 0.3 codename "Acolyte". The new version includes an improved album view, iPod sync, podcast and Internet radio support, among others.
Beatbox features a clean interface with 3 possible views, including a very cool album view, smart playlists, MPRIS v2 support (can make use of the Ubuntu sound menu or various GNOME Shell extensions) Last.fm integration (scrobbling, similar songs, etc.) and more.
Most important changes in Beatbox 0.3:
Beatbox is a new music player currently under development by the elementary team. As of now the main features include Last.fm integration, smart playlists, simple UI, album view browser, music search, etc. More features will be added in future.
The official Beatbox PPA has not been updated for quite some time. However, there is now a new PPA created by Gusions which will be updated more frequently. You can add this PPA to your sources by running the commands below but note that these packages are development builds and are far from being stable (for Ubuntu 11.04 only)
I got a request to make a Slingshot video so I though I'd make one featuring some more Elementary apps which are currently under development like Plank (Docky re-written in Vala - this is a project of the Docky team and not the elementary team), Wingpanel, Beatbox (music player) and of course, Slingshot launcher.
So here is the video:
In the above video you'll also notice an updated Elementary theme which works with GTK3 too (but there's still a lot to do for the GTK3 version - the menus for instance look broken for now). I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 with GNOME 2, however Marlin is using the GTK 3 Elementary theme.
Remember, these are all under development so they are not stable nor feature complete! Read Cassidy James' comment for more info (and some insights on what will change).
